It is the seat of Goddess Ganga which is situated in the heart of uttarkashi district in the sta te of Uttarakhand. Gangotri Temple is a holy place very close to Indo - Tibetan border. It is situated at a distance of 300 km from Dehradun, 250 km From Rishikesh with at an elevation of 3048 mts above the sea level. The beautiful temple was built by a Gorkha Commander in 18th Century. The cave is maintained by the GMVN - Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam.
